That really has nothing to do with it. It has everything to do with an anime that is running concurrently with a long manga series.

The number of episodes in a single season anime is often 11, 12 or 13 to fit into a 13 week season with "off" weeks due to holidays. That doesn't mean they always do it that way. Especially with series that run two seasons.

It was actually an Arcade game. I got to play it in the early 90s in Australia. The videos on YouTube I could find were using the MAME emulator to play it, despite the poor sound emulation for that particular game.

It does look pretty good, but how could it ever replace the actual old-school Macross shmup in my nostalgia?
