I was always Team Big, and I always believed that while Aidan was the man Carrie convinced herself that she should love, Big, for all his faults, was simply the man she did love.

Every few months my husband and I eat at one of the Texas Roadhouses near us, and I indulge in their peach daiquiri with whipped cream rum (one, very occasionally two). I think of it as what nectar tasted like to the Greek Gods on Mount Olympus.
In “Hoosiers,” when Gene Hackman’s flinty once-disgraced coach says “I love you guys” to his Cinderella high school players, there is never a dry eye in my vicinity!
Call me what you will, but I have always loved “Gigi.” Politically and culturally disturbing now? Yes, it is. But it wasn’t made now. It was made then. And everything about it, from the script to the score to the production to the performances was just right.
I’ve always loved Richard Blais. He’s warm, hard-working, friendly and receptive to everyone, has that bizarrely evolving hair, and forges wonderful unexpected friendships with other cheftestants, like Fabio Viviani - the two were dubbed “The nutty professor and... the Italian guy.” (Fabio had a real tendency towards…
I’m not a Beyonce hater; she’s talented in a number of ways, and quite beautiful. However to be as angry and offended as some people are when she isn’t nominated for or doesn’t win this or that award presupposes that she is undeniably more talented than any of the competition. I resent that - less from Beyonce than…
Even in the trailer that moment cracked me up.
I’ve been known to show the Inquisition scene to my Western Civilisation students. They usually love it.
I liked Melissa Rauch in “BBT” quite a lot. Marlene Warfield is another OG “Night Court” alumnus appearing in the new version. But it’s John Larroquette’s drop dead comic timing and ability to make a sleazy character somehow appealing that will draw me in.
And you as well.
I think I love you (in a specifically platonic, non-stalkery way, mind you)
I’ve disliked Philip’s “intimate friendship” this season for a number of reasons.
The stage musical version of “Billy Elliot” has a wonderful song sung by the striking miners at their threadbare Christmas party. It’s called “Merry Christmas, Maggie Thatcher” and I recommend it highly. They even manage to find a rhyme for Michael Haseltine!
How could you not include Arrow’s Malcolm Merlyn/Dark Archer, briefly Ras al Ghul? He was played by John Barrowman, who is gorgeous, a fine actor and handled the weaponry well. Admittedly, he was betrayed by the writing later on (the Magician becomes a cut-rate thug) but those first few seasons were wonderful.
I never thought he was particularly funny or very good as a host (his Tony Awards hosting made me grimace) or interviewer. This is something different in that. it speaks to his essential character as a person, and... I find I’m not surprised.
My first husband and I went to a Chi-Chis in central New Jersey a few times and enjoyed it. We were first lured in by a special promotion called “The Fiesta Sampler Platter”, where you paid a flat rate and they just kept bringing you food. He was quite careful about money so he appreciated the value. I remember the…
I’m surprised at how many people never saw “Deliverance,’ a beautifully made film that helped make four good careers. I saw it when it first came out and admired it greatly. I actually developed a bit of a crush on Cox, whose Drew was such a decent, well-centered man without being dull. And one hell of a guitar player!
“Us” was utterly chilling to me, especially in regard to that one key character. I find I can’t shake that chill.
If it was, then where was Captain Jack Harkness?
I think I (platonically) love you, Mac.
