I would say no. Fame implies a certain adoration or even worship, a separation from the everyday. This was an everyday guy who touched many people. He was important to them in so many ways, but he was not famous.

I would fly on one tomorrow if given the chance. That being said, what do you expect the FAA to do? They are in the unenviable position of both policing the industry and promoting the industry. The chances of their coming out and saying the 787 is dangerous, barring any single significant issue, are pretty slim.
