And looks better in Lego.

I think I just found my new Jalopnik screen name!

Is that a periscope so the driver can see where he's going?

You must be new around here.

I puckered at :26. That was insane.

I feel like I should start singing, "I'd like to buy the world a Coke...."

A crane for the crane?

Maybe the Mayans are right after all?

It's essentially a big oboe. It's angled so you can hold it and play it. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to reach the keys. If the English horn were truly English, it would be "Cor Anglaise", with an "e".

Gladiators, you say? Is there a movie?

Bitteschön.

The horn on the Deutsche Post sign is not a French horn. It's a Posthorn. The posthorn was blown back in the old days to signal the delivery of mail. There is a very famous posthorn solo in Mahler's Symphony No. 3.

I laughed. Good one.

I don't think anybody is immune to fire in these conditions. I live in Wells Branch, and the Parmer/Mopac fire was close enough for me. I've got my "go boxes" ready.

This is probably TX 71. There are four main lanes with median. The road on the right is an entrance ramp. There are often two-way service roads outside the main lanes as well.

Spot fires are popping up all around Austin, but crews are doing an amazing job to knock them down quickly. This map shows where the worst fires are between Bastrop and Smithville. Two confirmed fatalities, 500 homes damaged or destroyed. And no rain in sight.

You may have my ticket. I generally don't do heights. Mountains: okay. Sheer drops: terror.

I'm in Austin as well, and now there is a new fire close to Duval and MoPac. I'm going to prepare a "go box" just in case. This is getting scary.
