Same with Thrifty. No one on the east coast was getting that sweet Kodak deal.

This was the only version of Halloween I had ever seen for a LONG time. Probably until I was in my 20s. My dad had recorded this broadcast and we wore that tape out. When I was older, I recall reading an article about the original in which the author praised the film for, among other things, Carpenter’s utter refusal…
Two days after Halloween aired on November 1.
The commercial breaks, as you can see in a compilation upload, aren’t exactly made in the same spirit as the horror movie they interrupt.
I’m guessing nobody’s heart was in it.
BONG
Now I just want to track down a Thrifty and see if they still have this deal on Kodak film.
They are still available, but I only see them at the dollar store now.
why am I such a sucker for old TV commercials. Too bad EverReady batteries are not a thing anymore because the fact they had a cat as their logo is enough for me to buy it. Miss that old Duracell “copper Top” jingle too.
How am I going to fly my friends to the Superbowl with cracked upholstery?
dafuq, NBC aired that centerfold film?? that clip was hilarious.
1981 NBC promo.
Tangentially related, I remember my mom not wanting me to watch “Saturday the 14th” on my grandma’s ONTV. “Isn’t that the one where the babysitter gets killed”?
the scariest part is when the del taco dude stares right down the barrel at you, stealing your soul just before he eats a zesty chicken hardshell taco.
The Jerk was another movie that had some extra scenes added for TV. If I remember correctly, the added footage was of a guy tearfully trying to convince Navin to give him some money so he could re-upholster his airplane seats. Navin fell for it and gave him the money.
For years, my friend and I tried to figure out how we could have seen Jamie Lee Curtis say “Well somebody was” in a strange, hollow tone, when we couldn’t find such a moment anywhere on the Media home video cassette of Halloween.
What I’ve always found distracting about the show is how objectively awful the cops are at their jobs. I know it’s in service to the story, but man is it laughable how many times they forget procedures or are ignorant of this statute or that. And don’t get me started on the ridiculous number of times Benson’s gotten…
I liked the original Law & Order because I got the feeling the cops and attorneys acted like people doing this for a living. They’d get righteous and crusadery maybe 20-30% of the time - an unrealistically high amount, I’m sure - but generally they were just dedicated rather than incensed.
Man, this show completely blows now. I mean, it’s not as horrible as Blue Bloods but it’s still pretty bad.
