@Almightywhacko: And they get one, a good e reader with a webbrowser music player and a few other apps that will be optimized for the nook store. The android gurus will simply get a bit more out of the device than your average customer, as always.

@Red Rocket: It runs 5 processes on startup, always take more than a minute to launch on even the fastest machine. Runs its own unstable crash happy drivers just for ipod communication. And after all this pesters you with updates every couple of days while trying to install safari on your machine against you will.

@BARDLER: VALVe is that company.

@Vanderhuge: I do believe that steam has played and will play a very large part in keeping pc gaming alive.

@Almightywhacko: Its android, i give it 3 months before they have a hack to flash stock android onto it.

@CPD: This i can agree with, my disagreement is not with you but with National, i dislike the idea of teaching your kids how to use the friedly ui and nothing more about computers.

@National Sarcasm Society: Suffering? Suffering is the day when something goes wrong and they have no clue how a computer even works much less how to fix it.

@CPD: Refering to lunix, not modern windows (which really does a lot of coddling )

@National Sarcasm Society: And it is, because of my experimentation with lunix i now have a much better understanding of how a computer operating system works.

@HandsomeHorse: you could not pay me to use an ipod, not because its a bad product or a unreasonable dislike for apple, but because of iTunes.

I do not think this is because they hate the idea of their children having apple products, but more because of the media fallout of such a thing. Do you think it would look good on MS if gizmodo's headline was

@Slinkytech: Windows 7? just build your own machine, every motherboard that you buy for a custom machine comes with very simple settings for over clocking in the bios. For macs it will be difficult to impossible.

@jaigurudevaom: If you build your own desktop almost every single motherboard has simple options for over clocking. Most brand name computer manufactures do not allow over clocking because they are not confident in the intelligence of their users.

@Ghostnappa9001: It uses more resources but the sheer number of improvements make it more than worth it. If you really need to get the most out of low end hard ware you should be running dsl anyways.

if windows goes this direction as well then i guess my lunix box will be my only refuge from over simplified idiot machines.

Wire tapping is almost useless, i could in 5 minutes or less download set up and run a chat client that would encrypt all communication(text of voice) beyond the realm of practical cracking for any supercomputer on earth.

@Brian SF: your parents are a stick and a rock? how exactly did that happen?

@Finstern: It will happen, you just have to wait until earth is mined out. suddenly there will be a huge motivation (aka money) to get off this rock and onto another.
