Anthony Rapp is NOT an “unknown” actor. In fact, he was acting on Broadway at the same time Spacey was when this incident happened. And the play in which Rapp is most famous for acting (Rent) won a god damned Pulitzer Prize and a Tony award and firmly placed all those associated with it clearly into the “known”…
Spacey did three things in that fucked up apology that are outrageous to members of my community.
The red herring in this argument is its ignorance of how this behavior happens in every industry; not just in the arts.
Exactly. And they’re not warmly regarded by the LGBTQ community. Never have been.
Heh. Me too. Wanda Sykes’ tweet had me rolling.
You can’t say how it’s accepted now? Here’s a clue: during one of the Pride Parades in Manhattan in the 1990s, we (gay men) threw eggs at NAMBLA. Does that satisfy you?
The time period you describe was before I was born and I’m almost 50 years old. You didn’t grow up in the gay community in which I emerged, about the same time as Rapp. Psst? It wasn’t okay in the ‘80s.
“gay men”... “they”
I’m in my late 40s and I can tell you, unequivocally, I never had any problems attracting age-appropriate men in my late teens onward. Stop your generalizing bullshit.
“LGBT persons calling him out of this are being a bit disingenuous.”
No. They announced today (yesterday) that season six will be their last season.
What kind of piece of shit writes a post like that?
I think more women comes out as bi than men. Also, a lot of straight guys don’t believe (stupidly) that a guy can be bi, which is why a lot of them probably stay in the closet. Then, there are the group of gay men who claim to be bisexual and then later in life (like Spacey) claim they’re “choosing” to be gay.
My point was / is, he’s using coming out as some sort of bullshit buffer for his behavior. It’s revolting.
Interesting. In the novel, who’s the captain of the Enterprise?
And apparently, the writers and producers have chosen to simply ignore Saru’s ability to sense when death is coming. It came about 2,000 times in this episode and not one peep from Saru.
Oh, look at you, paying attention to the names of the Klingons and their houses. Personally, I’m bored to death of them, already.
