"to modern games"... like what? Call Of Duty? Watch Dogs?

the game has superb art-design, and for a 10yo release it also has VERY nice texture and modeling job. Not to mention the character animations; the faces alone surpass many post-2010 games I've played, ones that even have used mocap.

Sorry, but I just fucking HATE this guy and anything he says.

The same way HL Rally and the International Online Soccer are a Half-Life mods: they use the same engine. Almost everything else is unique. That's the way many big "games" today, like Team Fortress and Counter-Strike, started as.

Because UT3 engine is fucking bullshit, and I hate just about all games made with it.

CM-mod ruins EVERYTHING in HL2.

I remember seeing some of these in a Finnish game magazines in early 00s

Demon's Souls had pitch-black areas. Tons of them.

Naturally I can't answer for his behalf, but all that stuff is very easy to pick up if you've been playing games for a while and been interested in the tech behind them. The listed visual features are not exactly cutting edge effects anymore, and would be expected to be widely used in modern titles.

With Metal Gear Solid V (and its prequel) on the way, there might be people who have never played a Metal Gear game before wanting to get in on the action.

From what I've gathered from checking various reviews, previews, forum posts and comments on other sources, at least HALF of the "hate" is just because the fact that the game's a sequel to FFXIII, or that it has Lighting as the MC.

Those are VERY rare. Like last one I seriously remember of being anything of the sort was Nana, and that's old. Alternatively there's those grim & bloody series about actual criminals or other questionable groups. With majority of Japanese anime being about high-school students, college-aged cast is already quite

I'd rather show my kids stuff like this, material with meaning and historical accuracy, than those generic modern 3DCG Disney blockbusters that try to sugar-coat everything.

It's just a dress-up doll program for survivalist wannabes.

Didn't surprise me at all. The early sneak peaks, trailers, developer interviews and then pre-release previews all played the same tune: This game will NOT be a Thief-game, but a linear, consolized, heavily casualized QTE cinematic mess. Hell, you don't even STEAL anything in the last level!

that just means you haven't followed the media or forums at all in the past couple years. This game was doomed to be hated from the day one. Removing the level-up system and headshot bonuses at the last minute don't make it any better.

One big mistake in the listing:

Oh no, I did buy it. I still have the disc on my shelf for some strange reason.

I mean really. Windows 8 is just Windows 7 with more features (and better boot times).

it's simply "cool" to hate XIII. I guess many people were butthurt that they didn't get their 1000 square-mile mega-openworld realtime next-gen FF experience, but a more story-driven and guided experience.
