Dunno what you mean with "shitty drivers", I've been using the official releases all the time without issues (used Betas of 300 series for a while to test the FXAA feature, worked nicely as well).
Same thing. My old 8800GT still works fine, and is my backup in case my current 560ti ever goes kaboom. Considering it's ~30*C idle temperature and <50*C heavy stress performance (Stalker+mods, Metro 2033 ...), I somehow doubt that.
