Prequels to dystopian fantasies are stupid.

“The killer’s motive is clear: He cuts their faces off.”

Indeed, I like Moonraker because it’s so over the top.  The Spy Who Loved Me is top tier Band spectacle as well.

I’ve always appreciated the minimalism that FRWL has as a Bond film, it’s still my personal favorite. Too bad after Goldfinger the spectacle took over and the producers had the urge to top themselves with each successive film. The minimalism came back a bit with Live and Let Die and really took hold in For Your Eyes

As magnificent as Hepburn is in this movie, one has to wonder at the glorious Cleopatra-light disaster it would have been if JW had been forced to cast Elizabeth Taylor. Given their relationship at the time there’s no doubt that Taylor would have insisted that Burton be cast as Higgins.

Right......that handgun you’re hiding in your sock drawer is REALLY gonna help you when the big bad government decides to come down on your sorry ass with all the military might at it’s disposal.

That’s a pretty good template to emulate.

That’s a hell of a lot of plastic surgery to fix a sty in the eye!

You can’t talk about Argento or Fulci without mentioning the maestro of Italian gothic horror cinema...Mario Bava.

Indeed, even Fellini overdubbed films like 8 1/2 and La Dolce Vita.  You just have to get over it to enjoy Italian cinema of the 50s and 60s.

The sleeper in Leone’s set of westerns for me has always been “Duck, You Sucker” AKA “A Fistful of Dynomite” AKA “Once upon a time...The Revolution”.

The Academy dictated that 240 minute average OscarCast time needed to be trimmed down to 210 minutes.

I think it has more to do with the “actress past the age of 40" factor.

You forgot #3 - To get stomped on or eaten by the villain Kaiju

I don’t know about that, I’ve got a feeling that the extra two hours is more Taylor/Burton glaring at each other either in lust or hate for each other than it is spectacle or any kind of nuanced character development.

The oddest thing in my mind concerning this film given the problems is that forlorn producers kept pairing Taylor and Burton to diminishing results.

Blame the Comics Code and an anthropomorphic creature design close enough to human to raise the censors ire...I.E. the BULGE...

Brie Larson as Captain Marvel didn’t meet the minimum requirements for a female starring in a movie they wish to see.  The requirements being solely providing fodder for them wanking off.

In other words, the Westerosi version of George Lucas

True, Kubrick did flee to England and never made a film under the thumb of Hollywood producers or egotistical actors again.
