We slowed our population growth, and there’s reason to believe that the more the developing world develops, the lower their fertility will go, too. See Wikipedia: Income and fertility.

Books from GRRM are never late, and are never early. They arrive precisely when they mean to.

These are lovely, Travis. I’ve read (well, devoured!) Robinson’s books and cannot wait for the first movie! Thank you and Happy New Year!

And a black man

These images are really good, and brought back some of the best parts of Red Mars in my mind. Thanks for posting!

Not sure why, but I pictured Maya as a dirty blond, and not a brunette...

I pictured Nadia as someone more like Tatiana Kashirina.

These are very nice. Good job.

Wait, how does it spread delight and mirth by putting Han and Leia under the terrible pallor of having raised the space equivalent of a school shooter? That story element kills it for me (and the first act, right till they leave Jakku, was so, so good).

Yeah, I’m sure that’s what he meant. With the exception of your snarky, hipsterish condemnation of a movie that broke all records worldwide and is loved by the vast majority of moviegoers. Something that clearly sticks in your craw and yet is still true. Your reaction is such a typical, eyerolling criticism by people

Not quite sure what he means by a fluke. Cameron is one of the most successful film directors in history in terms of box office sales, even factoring in less than super popular films like the Abyss. Unlike some other films directors who will remain nameless, it is not like he made one very successful film about ghosts

We’re going to be meant to think Kylo Ren is Adam Driver’s character, but it is never made explicit. Eventually, it is revealed that Luke is the Kylo Ren character. Boom. Credits

Only if you live on Bizarro World. Mars is dramatically closer to the Earth in terms of research value. The Moon is a floating rock that never at any time in its history had surface lakes and rivers. NASA believes that Mars may have had life at one time, and it may still have life now. The Moon is geologically and

I don’t really think any other books about Mars comes close. This trilogy really needs to be taken as a whole as it follows the same characters from book to book. (I admit to being disappointed that Antarctica by Robinson wasn’t a prequel, given how the colonists trained there in preperation for life on Mars.)

You got it in one. Nothing even comes close.

It’s the situation itself. Having chosen to write about an attempt to get to the stars, I tried to play it realistically, and that made it more pessimistic. Inhabiting Mars is easier, inhabiting the solar system is easier, because in both cases we can return to Earth and get our sabbatical, as they call it in 2312.

Player of Games is probably in my top 3 favorite Culture novels. I highly recommend it!

I’ve found my ticket.
