I dunno, maybe the way you said it.

I’m holding them to a very high standard on this. Anything less than the most accurate depiction of Mars every seen on film would be a disappointment. What Gravity did for LEO, The Martian has to do for Mars. That means, Mars Gravity is a ‘thing’ and should be depicted instead of ignored, blue mother fucking sunsets,

Big Man’s Thumbprint.

2 things stand out to me from these shots...

No Zbrush/Mudbox or any character modelling programs. I did toy with the idea once but it was a recreational thought. I use Photoshop professionally for graphic design.

“As for the other point (CGI and marketing) I wasn’t so much suggesting that they lied or that they did not capture most of the film in-camera. Just going from comments online and from friends who are not in VFX it does seem some got the impression that CGI wasn’t a factor at all.”

This entire comment section is masturbation for pseudo-intellectuals.

"We have no business out there". Oh ok, pack it up guys, we shouldn't go there yet.

Come on. "Love" didn't transcend anything. The aliens with superadvanced science did all that.

We've found a lot of planets, but very few of them -if any- might be harboring life intelligent enough and advanced enough to be putting out the kinds of signals that would fully distinguish them from background noise. Most of those planets are gas giants, or have years measured in a few hours due to their absurdly

TSmith: I don't know you, so I won't speculate on your thoughts behind your post, but I would like to mention what thoughts it brings out in me from my own experiences.

There is only one race, humanity. The sooner people realise that fact the better. Everything else is just genetic make-up. Move on with your lives.

To quote Peter Dinklage in the too-shortlived sci-fi series "Threshold." : "People have been predicting the end of the world since the beginning of the world and so far exactly zero percent have been right."

That would've been nice; we could've skipped the space shuttle dark ages.

This book right here! The Years of Rice & Salt paints a very fascinating picture of a world without European influence and I'm very curious to know more details about their modern age.

It was excellent. A great science fiction piece.

You should have! It was a fun little firecracker in a can with Emily Blunt kicking alien ass all over the place.

So basically Q-Thruster is a set of two closely-spaced metal plates in near vacuum and one of the plates is perforated with a series of irregular holes (which do not exceed the diameter of the spacing distance of the two metal plates). Hmm... after all KINETIC FORCE comes from one thrust direction having more

Personally, I think NASA should totally be out there testing some crazy scifi ideas and barely-plausible physics. I don't think it should be a huge part of their budget, team, or research, but I think it's incredibly valuable to have some component of pushing the boundaries happening in publicly-funded research

Shameless plug, this is a dream project for me. This is an early sketch for a Red Mars illustration.
