Great reference, thanks for posting this. Not totally how I imagined her face but this works for her frame, maybe a little less muscular. I based her partially on a Russian actress who had won their version of an Oscar: Anna Mikhalkova.

It mentions during the Ares sequence that she’s half Georgian, but I think it also states that she has black hair at some point. I would have to check my notes. Looking forward to see who they cast!
I hoped to paint him to look McConaghey-eques, glad it read. For an illustration where his face is more visible i might blend him with Aldin, Glenn and a few other early astronauts. That being said, I think he would make a great Boone. Even if he’s supposed to be from Minnesota, McConaghey has the right mix of…
Template Wars, I feared we would see it once Disney got involved. Everything for them comes down to formula, and in this case we basically had elements, characters, relationships, settings, plot etc from the original trilogy thrown into a blender, slotted into a mad libs template, and focused grouped until it…
Did not fall in love with the first book. Might give it another shot. I am impressed by the production’s attention to detail, casting tall lanky actors as belters, all the way to the bird flying in low G. As a scene, it did not need to be there but it was a nice moment as far as establishing the setting.
I still think it will reveal the Na’vi are a post singularity society that collectively decided to go back and live life as pre-metal working societies. Sometime before this they modified themselves and eventually the rest of their biosphere to have a ‘direct connection’ via their bio-usbs. It has been long enough…
Agreed, at some point they have to give us a glimpse of what the resolution could be. Maybe they have? perhaps Rick, Carl, Nick (from FTWD) and others will discover they are immune to the ‘become a zombie’ aspect of the virus.
The way he says “.. finish what you started..” sounds very much like Mark Hamill.
Overall the effects were pretty good, the lower level of illumination, the sky and use of dust cloud formations in the compositions, the overall grading of the ground. Still I felt there were some missed opportunities highlight what makes Mars interesting and unique visually:
“And Damon’s co-star is also brilliant: Mars, and the Martian landscape. The sense of vastness, juxtaposed with claustrophobia, keeps us aware of just how screwed this guy is. “
Ahh, so disappointed to miss this, just recently read Aurora and Antarctica. Just in case you ever read this..
I don’t disagree with anything you said there (plot, dialogue, character have to be there and no amount of spectacle is a viable replacement) I just don’t think we as an audience should have to choose between one or the other. I want character, dialogue, plot *and* spectacle. The Martian is a man vs. nature story,…

You might be able to jump your way up the mountainside.
“China will undoubtably surpass the US in its efforts for space colonization.”
In the chapters from Melisandre’s perspective it seemed as though she actually
believed in Stannis’s destiny. In the show the actor’s expression did a good job conveying her surprise that Stannis was not who she thought he was. So in that respect I liked it as a way of hinting that she now needed to find someone else…
We should be hoping for outstanding visuals and great characters, should anyone expect less from any film in this genre? My point is that with all the technology at their disposal anything but the most accurate depiction would be a disappointment. I say that as a Mars enthusiast and VFX artist. And I wasn’t saying…
I’m holding them to a very high standard on this. Anything less than the most accurate depiction of Mars every seen on film would be a disappointment. What Gravity did for LEO, The Martian has to do for Mars. That means, Mars Gravity is a ‘thing’ and should be depicted instead of ignored, blue mother fucking sunsets,…
