Oh wow, that's a great way to think of it. I'm now a tad more excited for this little nub!
Really depends on the size of your hands. The 3DS XL is good for me, and the normal 3DS is good if you get a power back for it. The added bulk + extra battery life is well worth it.
There may be some markup, but many 3DS games are $40 or $50 in the US. Which translate to nearly $45-$56 AUD. So, you're still within the range, with some regional difference. Taxation is a big part of that, and in the US, you're likely to get hit with those costs elsewhere instead.
Looks like the New 3DS will cost 219.95AU($195 USD) and New 3DS XL will cost 249.95AU ($221).
Oh, and someone just mentioned that Australian 3DS's have worked in Europe in the past, because they're treated as the same region. Individual games may be blocked from sale country to country, but games can be played across them all.
Oh I see. I guess that's alright.
Like on Ebay or Craigslist? hm. I may consider that instead. It's definitely in good condition.
So, I guess trade ins are just for store credit, right? hm.
Also, the normal New 3DS has a slightly bigger screen, edging the "XL" gap even a tad further. I think they are trying to make the normal New 3DS the premiere platform again.
Speaking of which, I'm thinking of upgrading to a 3DS XL this week. I'd rather buy the New 3DS, but... yeah. I keep hearing everyone appreciate the XL over my normal 3DS, and it seems like time to trade up.
