I’m wondering if what you’re having a reaction to is the tannin which come from the oak barrels that wine and higher quality rums are aged in. I don’t think many of the other types of hard liquor are aged in oak barrels, but I could be and probably am wrong. +1 for rum though, like a pirate. That should be a slogan.
