I said the same thing about that fob when it was first shown. I totally agree with you. You can't over think it so I pressed the "I believe button" and came up with portals. The computer communicated through sub-space to another using portals. If you take this away from me I can't watch anymore :)

They are forgetting one more interesting point. When Walt discuses how he can afford the cars he tell Hank that with the lease rates it was a pretty attractive offer. It's not just product placement it's making it's way into the dialog as well.
