75 fucking years.
He’s a pleasant airhead. There’s nothing there. I don’t dislike him, but I mean, I know people who knew him in college, he was a likeable not exceptionally sharp guy. He does not take after his father (who I disliked, but was sharp as hell). There’s absolutely no way he’d be prime minister if it weren’t for his name.
I hated his dad, because I disagreed with him on many things.
Idk.
As a Canadian:
Would definitely wear that jacket.
I don’t know. My gut is they actually push Republicans back into the fold. My guess is Republicans who don’t love the Trumpers are not convinced by disruptive protesters, rather disruptive protesters make them more tolerant of Trump’s abrasiveness.
So we’re mad at the university for not throwing him out based on shifting charges before a trial, rather than at the justice system for taking 3.5 years to get to trial? It’s not Loyola’s fault a rapist was walking around for 3.5 years (potentially committing more crimes).
Both views - that all oil moved by pipeline replaces train/truck and that none of it does - are likely wrong. The question is how much does the pipeline change the price of gas and hence it’s usage. If not at all, it would simply replace trucks or trains - maybe not around a given refinery, but -somewhere-.
I think people just have no idea that trains are rolling through their town full of oil, or don’t think about it.
Sometimes exploisions. A train carrying crude through a small town in Quebec in 2013 derailed and triggered fire and explosions, directly killing 47 in the blast, and basically wiping all the buildings out in the center of the town, either directly or via contamination.
It’s not ‘male’ priviledge. It’s straight up privilege. If you’re some regular white male and do this, you go to jail, hide from inmates, get put on the sex offender registry.
Not pregnant (also a cis male).
Protest him being in government, sure.
Most of you seem to be missing the point, and assuming that young authoritarians are Trump fans. Some are. But by and large, authoritarian young people are on the left. The erosion in support for democracy is not just Trump fans who want him to drain the swamp or smash the elites, its also among young leftists who…
This. We were in the grips of #believeAllChildren
Sure, some just want power. Others legitimately are hoping they can do the job better than whoever else he might pick. And they might indeed, at least till they get fired. Or not.
Things like the electoral college vs. direct election of presidents (which could be done by state directly even if you didn’t want straight popular vote) was designed to stop demagogues from taking over. The system actually had a fail safe.
Thanks very much for those links. He comes across as a hawk, but a relatively smart and sane one.
