And is there not some danger that these people from already-marginalized groups are villainized? We’re supposed to hate the Heathers—isn’t there something kinda fucked up when these people are from groups that are often already hated by people?

“Except we haven’t seen the movie yet, or even heard a real plot description as far as I know.”

That’s great! I hope her next project is worthy of her talent.

I think this is going to be ‘Heathers’ in name only. So really it’ll be ‘Glee’ without singing and dancing.

Except that it is being shown on TVLand, so it will be watched by exactly zero teens.

I get what you’re saying that the outsiders of the past can now be the cool kids. I think they went too far in trying to subvert past expectations. Society as a whole has not gotten to the point where minorities are the new oppressors in high school.

I can’t believe this train wreck is still happening. I’ve said it before, but put aside the casting issues and you’re still left with a movie that, at its most basic level, involves a kid trying to blow up a school and kill all of his classmates.

So in this version of Heathers, the Heathers are racially and sexually diverse and Veronica and JD are pretty straight white people who in most high schools would have an easier time being accepted by others? That’s...weird. I mean, I guess it wouldn’t work well the other way either, since Veronica and JD are evil.

I’m not sure where some of the people have come from, but there are some very insistent, very rude people who do seem to fit the mold referenced in post above - super rigid, very black and white, and very willing to go mean girl attack mode.

Gawker refugees? I always found that site attracted a lot of outspoken snarky assholes, so I read the articles and generally avoided leaving comments.

Note: Responses that are insane, false and/or misleading, baiting, reveal that the respondent didn’t read the post, or attempt to “well actually” me about my own personal history will be summarily dismissed.

Jezebel was such a big part of the cuntiness directed at AH. I feel like maybe there should be some acknowledgement in this article link.

Particularly as I’m not sure she realized she’d be doing it alone while James Franco flopped about uselessly.

And then we all got annoyed that Jennifer Lawrence seemed like she wasn’t trying because she was trying too hard to not be trying too hard. I feel like our pop culture cycle is just ruthless to female talent.

I’ve always liked Anne Hathaway, but I never got the fawning over her as the be all end all of style and grace, immediately followed by the backlash, no small amount from Jez, that she’s worse than Hitler because her acceptance speech seemed rehearsed.

Yeah, I was so bored with the hate she got. It was so symptomatic of the bullshit standard of *effortless* perfection women, especially celebs, get held to. Hathaway showed that she was working hard to be liked and validated. Everyone remember how at this time Jennifer Lawrence was at peak adulation and everyone loved

Eh, the scorn was way overboard. She won a huge award for a project that meant a lot to her. She’s young and got overwhelmed.

I tried to pretend that I was happy and I got called out on it, big time. That’s the truth and that’s what happened. It sucks.

Yawn. Come down off that high horse, when you’re done, partner.

she didn’t deserve any of the hate she got. we made fun of her for being thirsty for an oscar when everyone in the industry is. why did she get singled out?
