I'm curious if this is an attempt to begin subsidizing iOS device purchases with this revenue. Sort of how Sony/Microsoft subsidize some of the console price with fees collected from game sales. Apple could be attempting to leverage their unique app store success ( no other app store is raking in revenue like apple).

Google is fundamentally destroying Microsoft's business model... and they are being incredibly successful at it in the consumer and mobile space.

these are public companies, right? I'm sure the shareholders are thrilled, get these CEO out if you want to protect your investment.

So, the subscription fee is for what exactly? Because all the bandwidth is my own, as well as processor time. Is this $40/yr service fee just to get a static IP and let you sell my usage data? Hmmm, no thanks.
