DI is not the problem. Most manufacturers use DI now without issues. VW sucks at it and has massive carbon problems. Hyundai\kia sucks at it and suffer from blow by. I have owned dozens of DI cars and never had issues. 

Everything else in California looks (and is) a little funny. I dont see why the gas nozzles would be any different.

My 2012 mazda 3 with 2.0 and 6MY has 265k miles on ot currently. It yas cost me NOTHING but tires, brakes, a few batteries, and fluid changes. I have bought and sold other cars along the way. The mazda just keeps going. When it finally dies, I will get another mazda.
