But… but… Fillmore didn't come in third against Pierce and Scott in 1852 — Scott beat him for the Whig nomination, so he wasn't a general election candidate. He did come in third when he ran against Buchanan and Fremont as a Know Nothing in 1856. Both of those elections were pretty damn sucky, tho.
