I tend to forget the BRM H16 engine existed as it was more suited as a boat anchor than an actual engine, good catch. Plus the Lancia D50 was front-engined and had chassis running along the engine so doesn’t really count.

Lotus 49. Literally changed the Formula 1 game with the DFV being a stressed member, paving the way for compact rear packaging to this day.
It’s been my profile picture for a long time now, any aspiring facial hair growers should take note of his extravagant yet classic look.
...You serious? NASCAR Cup and Xfinity at Richmond, IndyCar at Laguna Seca, F1 at Singapore, Speedway GP at Cardiff, and MotoGP at MotorLand Aragon are all this weekend. There’s a lot of racing going on.
I dunno, it does have a supercharger, twin turbochargers and nitrous injection on a Cummins block though, pretty sweet smoke show.
These aren’t really trucks either and therefore by your logic have no reason to exist. But by golly the world would be much more dull if that were the case.
Menard isn’t the most senior driver currently on tour, others such as Ryan Newman, Kevin Harvick, and Jimmie Johnson have a couple more years in the seat.
+1 Twinkie Wiener Sandwich.
First day there in June I mentioned this video and Tom had a great story behind it, gotta love the old days.
Days late (been in P-Town at Tom’s house), hoped to see this answer.
Incorrect, the P34 was replaced in 1978 by the Tyrrell 008, whereas the six-wheelers were banned at the start of the 1983 season. Williams tested six-wheelers in 1981 (FW07C) and 1982 (FW08D) on the thought that having two sets of smaller driving tires created less drag than the larger single tire sets, unfortunately…
The design also died because Goodyear did not develop the small tires like they did the “traditional” larger tires, any grip advantages were lost and they ended up with a heavy inferior system.
Dirt track racing doesn’t have blue flags an they seem to race just fine. They don’t have communication between crews and driver either, coincidence? I think not!
Funny you mention that, modern TA2 cars are very similar to modern NASCAR-spec cars, only real difference is the rear suspension as TA2 cars run a 4-link with Watts link instead of the NASCAR-spec truck arms.
Frankenstein’s Monster Truck
Personally it’d be pretty neat to see Wickens get involved with fellow Canadian Rob “Chairslayer” Parsons on a build, both guys seem awesome and could make some super crazy machines.
I see what you’re saying, but personally don’t think it fits as well. The Rally Fighter being front-engined has a longer, flatter hood and a rear window, the Peugeot has a more sloped hood/nose and no rear window due to the engine being in the back, and a scoop on the roof for an intake/cooling/etc.
Has a Peugeot Dakar feel to it, I like it.
Fun fact the Volkswagen I.D R is 350mm wider than current F1 cars (2350mm vs 2000mm), and the 919 Evo is narrower still at 1900mm. Kinda makes the I.D R seem “fat” looking at it that way.
Not too surprising considering the CFD, powertrain, tire and general vehicle dynamics advances in the 21 years since the MP4/13 was constructed. Still that’s one wicked fast lap, well done Romain.
