Cantaloupe's the clear winner for me too- something about its taste is just fuller. More MEATY.

I agree 100%. If you haven't read "i'm your man" you should check it out, as it further supports this theory. The interview book 'cohen on cohen' packs a wallop too.
I can't parse your meaning of 'three times as many transtormers or jelineks'. I'm unfamiliar with Jelineks, but a decent fan of Transtormers- is he looked down upon by the greater lit community?? Just curious
That's a lovely story. And if anybody (short of morgan freeman, course) could voice that role, it'd be Orbison.
Gotcha; thanks!
Shame, shame on you! (Now, can you, by chance, direct me to where you found this shifty-eyes material?? I'm somewhat tech-illiterate. but eternally grateful.)
Aren't many other sites on the internet where this sort of discussion would happen- the climate affecting suspicion, manifest destiny spoiling relig tradition. it's why i've always loved the av club.
Just wanted to say I really, really agreed with your 'unfettered creativity' line- It's definitely been my…
Very well said. preach!
Yes! Those nashville scene recaps are glorious.
I never get tired of this cover.
at long last, howard the duck commiseration! I had to get on here to tell you that that movie did a number on me too when i was a kid; I still haven't gone back and rewatched it to this day. I can remember being a kid, loving the first half of that movie, and then gradually in the second half… ferris bueller…
No, (at least to me) that's a fairly safe bet one. I was thinking more along the lines of folks like Hendrix, Dylan, Beatles, etc.
Stuff that's not only fairly popular with the general public, but also is unimpeachable with the high-minded folk. I just think it'd be great to see someone dissect, or eviscerate, this…
I agree with everything you said; and wonder if one of the things that might salvage this feature would be to just outright force them to pick a sacred-cow-type song. The hate song on "Imagine" i remember being decent, because it jogged everyone's perception of it, and impelled many to admit they thought it was shit…
That whole song is pretty great to me. Even the lyrics, if i remember right, were kinda Cohen-ish
THAT is the line where my whole family lost it! soon as you said it i instantly was thrown back to that moment. thank you sir!
"In my family basketball is a religion. also, catholicism. that's actually the main one"
God, all these stories make me so sad. I'm from MS, and have (for the most part) lived here for 35 years. While i've seen my fair share of shit, it's never been on the level of some of the stories here (not doubting them, of course).
I'm probably literally the only person in MS reading the av club, so I just want…
hey! I watched that the other day, to see if i still found it funny- it was. brutal, but funny. I found myself thinking "if these jokes didn't land so well, this guy would get stampeded". Rest of his stuff can be hit or miss, to me, but that special is equal parts amazing and ruthless.
God, "Crush",even though it was slaughtered on the radio back in the day, is still such a great song to me.
