Reeves, Rotoscoping, Donna Hawthorne
I really like this forgotten and underrated movie. I have it on bluray and find it endlessly rewatchable. There's just no other movie that comes close to capturing the work and feel and tone of one of my favorite authors, and this is wonderful especially in the case of PDK, whose…
The personalities
Is it just me or does this season have a much higher ratio of unlikeable contestants? I find myself rooting against most of these people, and beyond Kenny, I'm hard pressed to think of any that I'd like to be around. If they aren't hateable, they're just bland. I'll have to see if any grow on me as…
In the second or third episode of this season, Tony's Russian comare, Irina mentions her one-legged cousin Svetlana who doesn't show up until the last episode of season 2. Sometimes there are names dropped here and there that end up becoming characters.
If it means anything, Lorraine Bracco received the American Psycho-Analytical Association award one year for her portrayal of Dr. Melfi. I remember reading about how they felt it was the most realistic portrayal of the profession.
Keep on keeping on Todd. You ramble on terrifically.
I think the guy who plays Richie is pretty hilarious actually and well-played, but he's almost too much of a joke, so it feels a little tonally off for a Sopranos episode.
Bobbi got a memorable sendoff. Any more of her would've retroactively ruined that, so I'm glad she didn't show up again.
I agree about how dated the plot with coach feels but the Junior subplot in this episode is great, if only for all the cunnilingus jokes.
But why do we need an anime big screen version when we have the series itself telling the same story in more depth and detail?
That's a shame
cause the series really is a great one. I'm wondering how much of this is M. Night's fault or if the source material is unadaptable.
You certainly don't have to have been an addict to understand the story, but I do think there is something to be said about having experienced what the characters go through.
I spent much of the latter two years of college in a stoned haze and often doing harder stuff. What the novel manages to capture with such…
Current Affair
Yeah I remember that show. It was on fox I think. Glad they're bringing it back and making it funnier. Hopefully they get Maury Povich to come back too.
Requiem for a Dream
It gets a lot of hate here, but I love the way this film in it's third act builds to that over-the-top tragic and operatic ending, intercutting the stories of the four characters ultimate tragedies while Clint Mansel's heavy score gets more and more insane. I love the pacing and kinetic energy of…
Hot Fuzz is an amusing enough, but thoroughly mediocre film until that incredible ending. Sitting through the film is worth it just to get there. Good choice.
In the Bedroom
This is a fantastic movie all the way through, but that last act is really what stays with me. I've spoken with people who think it's a happy ending, but I find it to be profoundly sad, disturbing, and haunting.
I can still picture Tom Wilkinson's face as he thinks about that photo with Marissa Tomei…
I really like Vol. 1 and it's popart aesthetic. That movie is like candy and really just a fun ride. Vol 2 tho, I've never understood the love for.
Hell yes. This is one of my favorite movies. And I love how lines are repeated in different contexts in the different endings.
Old Boy
Everything that comes after the big reveal is astonishing and colors what came before it in a terrible and terrific new light. One of the most fucked up and brave endings to a film.
yeah, I was going to say something about The Chinese Restaurant getting the same grade as the other two episodes when I saw that they had gotten A's cause I assumed that was what was coming. The Babyshower is alright and The Jacket is pretty great, but The Chinese Restaurant is just on a while other level. It's the…
eh, I thought it was good. But more in line with the quality of the movies than the first four seasons. More amusing hehes than laugh out loud moments.
Still it's so great to have Futurama back, and I have faith that it won't be significantly worse than what came before it was canceled (looking at you Family Guy!).…
