They live in Waco, y’all. There’s no way they can live there and not be super Jesus-y. It’s the law.

In one of the article threads about Ghostbusters, somebody forwarded me a video that kind of discusses why it was such an enduring movie, and why it specifically affected kids (despite in no way intending to be a kid’s movie). The (very good) analysis that the video writer concluded was that what Ghostbusters taught

I feel weird about liking Old Ben way more than Young Ben.

still probably better than the old mailer “Hey remember that guy who kept talking about Clinton’s penis? They gave that guy a university!”. Or “Come to Waco, where Dr. Pepper was invented AND THEN NOTHING NOTEWORTHY EVER HAPPENED AGAIN”

Baylor’s athletes may have raped some women, but the important thing is they did it honorably, as unpaid amateurs.

I heard the findings were to grizzly to be put on paper. So they take the polar opposite approach, which leaves a black mark on the university. Ursinae.

“Gotta Catch ‘Em All” doesn’t include plant life, bro.

Uh, bro:

Also capturing all those weak creatures gives you Stardust which you will find quickly becomes a permium as the requirements to power up a pokemon get larger the more you’ve already powered it up.

I was playing this shit before your 10 year old was alive, so frankly Pat, I don’t give a damn.

I’m going with “Sulu was not closeted, he just didn’t bring his personal life to work.”

APA is the stupidest thing ever. I loathe APA.

The URL thing is particularly annoying. They say in the actual book, “here are all the issues with including the URL, but there are some good reasons too, so let’s include it, but if your professor says don’t, then don’t.” Like, not the world’s most compelling argument.

Ugh, I just skimmed over a document that outlines the changes. C’mon MLA. So much mindless fussing. They can’t decide if they want the URL in the citation or not. Every edition they change their mind. I just taught a bunch of students completely obsolete information this spring. Awesome.

I wish I knew Chicago style better. I’m in an academic position where I should know all the styles equally (university Writing Center coordinator), but I’m especially hopeless at Chicago.

I put this off for way too long, so I’m spending tonight wrestling with the new MLA guidelines. I like the basic ideas, but it’s not nearly as “free and easy” as they want us to believe.

prayers because at this point in time this community needs exactly that, we need prayer

Excuse you, he looks nothing like Richard O’Brien.

Houston native here. This absolutely happens. I went to perhaps the wealthiest public high school in Houston and people did transfer out to avoid the implications of the top 10% rule. But it’s not a huge rush of people - only some.
