IIRC, it electrically folds up and out of the way when you turn off the ignition and back down when you start it up, to ease getting in and out.

I believe this car was supposed to be under Mazda’s stillborn Amati luxury brand, which was meant to go up against Acura, Infiniti and Lexus in North America. You can think of this car as a direct competitor to the Toyota Soarer / Lexus SC, with a bit more personality.
