My description is a very brief summary, to be sure, but I don't believe I got any parts wrong. It's not my fault if an accurate summary of this story sounds like mockery.

I didn't say it wasn't ill-informed and thoughtless. I said it wasn't close to that of evangelicals. Maher played fast and loose with the Horus myth to make it seem as though the Jesus myth was much more derivative of that story than it actually is. This doesn't approach the level of ignorance of people who believe

Maher's brand of atheism is not remotely as ill-informed or thoughtless as those evangelicals. That's absurd. He is kind of a smug ass though.

LOL

The fact that you think so means that you are almost certainly right.

My point is that atheism isn't a "belief system;" it is just a byproduct of requiring evidence to believe in things. It isn't a philosophy, and it has no tenets. In that respect, it is exactly like not believing in goblins. It is simply neutral.

This smacks of effort.

I mostly agree, but it's silly to suggest that Maher should have "tied his atheism to a meaningful cause." Atheism is not a political movement. Gods are simply one of the infinite number of things atheists don't believe in. Why not suggest that Maher tie his lack of belief in unicorns to a meaningful cause? It's no

It's a good point. What does a "Fashion Rocks" crowd want? Did he get booed for being too Biebery, or not Biebery enough?
