Stop The Presses! Baz Luhrmann’s made a film that doesn’t represent reality as anyone has ever lived in it!

And mean spirited.

Yeah, I was wondering why anyone would be looking for anything resembling “authenticity” in a Luhrmann film.

I would argue it’s because Tom Parker did not sound like that whatsoever and Hanks admitted he made that accent up to show the audience there was “something else” about the Colonel, but unfortunately, sounding like a character on Hogan’s Heroes doesn’t quite do it.

“Hanks, of course, plays Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis’ manager/parasite, who Luhrmann’s screenplay—which arrives with a whole forest of names attached to it in the film’s credits—places at the center of Elvis’ story, for some reason.”

The point of these Vanity Fair bits is just to have the actors chat - I clicked on this one because I genuinely didn’t know what Mike Myers’ speaking voice sounded like. But also, “making the joke less funny by explaining it” was a go-to punchline throughout the Austin Powers series.

It’s foreword, as in the words that come before the rest of the book

As someone currently ghostwriting a history of queer representation in media, I can confirm that this is the correct answer. We’ve been here before, folks. We’ll be here in the future.

To be fair, changing Loki’s line to “I once turned into a mare, fucked a giant’s horse, and gave birth to my dad’s sick new ride” would perhaps also not be a slam dunk for LGBTQ representation.

And the most annoying thing is that he’d probably be right

It doesn’t work. The kind of pollen that causes allergies isn’t what bees are gathering — it’s not flowers, it’s grasses and stuff. Also most honey just doesn’t have enough pollen left over to inoculate you against allergens.

you should watch the clip before you comment!

Fuck everything, we’re doing five plugs!

eh? So in my case i have an 05 Sequoia that gets 12 MPG.

I think the distinction is reasonable - Elizabethtown is largely forgotten at this point, probably by the cast itself. It doesn’t reach and fail, it’s just kind of there.

They probably figure that there’s not enough of us old timers left here to notice or raise much of a stink about it.

he argues that the twin Cessnas would not technically be aircraft during the skydiving portion of the stunt, but free-falling objects, and thus not required to have a pilot onboard....

I enjoy pointing out hypocrisy as much as the next guy, but the rebuttal to that is that they’re taking money from people who give it to them, not money from government services. Mind you, if some of these people are taking unemployment insurance or are on benefits, that’s some real hypocrisy, but I think we’re

Well, locks aren’t a societal rule. Respect for people’s property is a societal rule. Locks exist because there are people in our society who never learned (or at least learned to respect) the idea of other people’s property. So we have to put locks on things to keep some a-hole from getting in your car without your

Right, because they have good transit infrastructure. But they have fewer deaths per km anyway.
