I was really commenting on the OPs blanket statement about family being permanent. For some people family really is important, and I think that’s pretty cool. If I had a more general thesis it would be that you actually do get to choose your family, esp. as you get older. It’s a choice to draw close to or push away

Just re-read this comic, and is really one of my favorites. I’m not sure how this will be adapted in a way that doesn’t require some gutting, but I’ll be glad for it to get some exposure to a larger audience.

As someone who hasn’t spoken to my father in 8 years, not out of any anger or fallout but just because we are two entirely different people, families are not permanent. They’re just a loose agreement that genetics mean something socially.

“Huck” is a criminal oversight here. Easily better than several other options.

I’ve got a 24-hour flight from Mumbai to San Francisco and just watched it twice. The evidence of Han and Leia being her parents is all over the movie. One thing I had picked up was that she is incredibly competent with the Millenium Falcon despite saying she’d never flown it before, and Han giving her some

It’s really damn important to expanding my X-Wing Miniatures squadrons.

I was really hoping to see something from Warhammer 40k. At least a Bolter.

Here’s hoping to it being hallucinogenic fungus.

I think the current crop of reviews of Star Wars reviews should pick this one apart as well.

Going to finally learn to play Warhammer 40k, complete with miniature painting.

The question is really "How long were those people gone on their trip back to England?". Even if it was 5 years, someone should have recognized family members even if they were living amongst an Indian tribe.

There's nothing wrong with being a fan of more hard sci-fi movies, just don't expect others to make them. This may be one of those things where if you want it, it's time to write a script and pick up a camera and start down that long path.

I remember Willow quite fondly. There wasn't much else in that vein at the time, and it told a reasonably enjoyable story and looked good. The different settings really made the world breathe a bit.

This article made me remember how genuinely sad I am that Lock & Key never got a full series. It wasn't the ideal framework for television given it was wrapped up and a studio couldn't milk it indefinitely, but there could have been a 3 - 5 season series that would have been amazing, and there were plenty of

Was anyone else momentarily excited by the prospect of "Ex Machina" (the comic) getting adapted?

Always sad that "Chew" doesn't get a lot of love at io9, more so because I actually discovered it through this site.

Was going to say the same thing. I rarely see "Porco Rosso" mentioned when people talk or write about Miyazaki, but has always been his work that has resonated the most with me. It could be because it represents a civilized view of the world when it had just gone through a war of previously unimaginable breadth, or

"Venn never really questions his place in the universe, the steps that brought his civilization to this point or really even questions the necessity of war in the first place."

Man, the first Critters was so awesome. I haven't seen it in years, but I'm scared it won't hold up after 28 years.
