@godfathercorvette: I doubt there was something preventing it. Unless there was a hallway outside of that building leading up to the entrance, that the van happened to be driving in. Well maybe I guess.

@stoke™: It looks to me like the car picked up 5+mph in the last few feet before the impact. 10-15mph and 6,000 lbs = destruction.

I think it is a little odd his strategy was to outrun the truck, Indiana Jones style rather then just sidestep the truck right as it started moving. He may have outplayed Darwin there.

@jodark: Fair enough, it isn't the ring I dislike, I'm just disinterested in the whole lap record on the ring I guess. Part of it is the lack of "regulation", and just the size of the track does not make it the best for comparisons, consistency from lap to lap driving at 10/10ths is basically impossible.

@TroyQueef: Less weight, more hp is literally the definition of a muscle car. That was the original design intent behind the cars, take some of the smaller cars in the lineup, or make one and stuff one of the larger engines they had in it.
