Where are the hotshot writers stepping up to the plate to replace those writing for this wonderful Star Trek series?

My older brother watched TOS when I was a kid on syndication. II remember him using a tape recorder (not a vhs mind you) but a cassette tape recorder to record Trouble with Tribbles episode. His favorite part was “They called the Enterprise a garbage scowl!” I was like 6 or 7. I didn’t care for any of it until 1987…
