I'm having a hard time with the reading, too. I don't hesitate to give the writer benefit of the doubt here, so I admit I'm probably missing it, but I can't really read that in any way that's not minimizing the discrimination.

Les Miserables: The Dream Cast In Concert, 1995, on PBS. I didn't know anything about the show, or about musical theater at all. But flipping channels I had to stop when I saw the impossibly beautiful Lea Salonga singing the impossibly sad (to an overemotional 16-year-old) On My Own. Then A Little Fall of Rain crushed

For songs that have come out recently, I guess the ones I've listened to most often are Fight Song by Rachel Platten, and Architect of the Ruin, by Toad the Wet Sprocket.

It's the Storify that has multiple pages, and AV Club just embedded the Storify.

Noting the lack of Oxford comma, I would say fair at best.

Dryrubland.

Yes! Fish, meat, cheese, and eggs. It's like lunch - which is nice, because it's so hearty you can put lunch off 'til 3 and then have dinner at 10, as the sun is just starting to go down.

He said that he's in great pain and he wants to know if you can help him.

Given that his name wasn't Luke Vader, but Luke Skywalker, it'd probably have been Luke Anakinsson.

Is there a way to get the blood to flow up the walls? Killer.

Gentlemen, BEHOLD! More CORN!

I want to see somebody pick the Beatles. I hate the friggin' Beatles, and it would be nice to see that somebody else on Earth hates them too.

Yeah! Tonight!

With lightning there's no good answer. Stand in a field, and you're the tallest point. Stand under a tree, and the tree falls on you. Stupid lightning.

I admit that I don't like Christina Perri, but that cover is one of the worst covers I've ever heard. Her last chorus shows promise, but the rest of it was just really, really bad.

It's true that Del Ray has certainly been able to do this in a more pop style, and does try to conjure up the past (and further in the past than the '90s). And I like your comparison to Poe, although I don't think it's quite right. Myers has a much harder edge - I don't know how to explain it, but her singing doesn't f

For those of you interested in following me down this rabbit hole, Rachel Taylor was the singer in the band He Is We, which was a super-happy pop duo (that I learned about from my Rachel Platten station - and if you haven't gotten sick of Platten yet, you will, because she's going to be huge).

To say "nobody else is doing it" is pretty naive. I hear Del Rey on my Rachel Taylor Pandora station, and I think both Taylor and Meg Myers do it far better than she does. (Based on a small sample, to be sure - I think Rachel Taylor only has like 8 songs.)

I jumped in full dingle, and I'm glad I did.

This comment board is a fucking nightmare.
