Also, the "Sketch show with a framing device that has a plot" is sort of a recurring format in Justin Roiland's previous TV pitches, like Brain Nuggets and Paloni Pitch Presentation.

Loved the episode. My favorite moment was Baby Legs, because it really felt like audio from an improv sketch that they animated. "Oh, shit, I'm the killer. I'm running!"

Really? It's been a while since I saw Squidbillies.

How topical. Now, stopical!

Having a habit of being emotionally connected to artists is actually why I listen to Harmontown, since he's a much nicer guy than his infamous "persona" suggests.

If we're thinking of the same confrontation, it was a fan who tweeted that Dan should "stop talking" because he's making himself sound like a dick to people who don't know him, and Dan replied to her on twitter, and both sides were hurt.

Archer is better as self-contained episodes. Quick build-up, and quick payoff. Having an arc-heavy season delays the payoff, which is exciting because it'll probably be big, but the build-up feels slow in early episodes. That's my understanding of the situation, anyway.

I understand. Though, if it makes it easier, it's recorded in front of an audience of his fans, and they're usually welcome to come up the stage and talk to him. If Dan said something that would really piss off a fan, he'd definitely hear it a second later in the episode.

Yeah, listen to the first conversation between Rick and Morty in the pilot, about dropping a bomb and getting a "fresh start". It feels like ad-libbing, with the two talking over each other and stuttering. Then you realize they're voiced by one man.

To his credit, though, Feral Audio has some pretty cool shows.

I disagree. What makes Community so bizarre and unique is how it all happens in a live-action show. An animated Community would diminish the weirdness, since our suspension of disbelief is stronger.

Angrily, if I remember correctly.

Yeah, it irks me too that Justin doesn't get mentioned as much. It's probably because people know Harmon more, and two names would not fit as well on a headline.

Don't avoid Harmontown just because of this guy. There's less AVclub-bashing in the actual show, I swear!

With Archer focusing on its seasonal arc, it's nice to have a more self-contained show like Rick and Morty. I'm excited about Archer Vice, but it feels like watching a movie divided in parts, and the momentum takes a few episodes to build up.

Aw, what? Dammit.

Also, both shows revel in the deconstruction of sci-fi and fantasy tropes, and aren't afraid to traumatize their more innocent characters.

If this was truly the second episode to be written, then I'm glad they moved it up to episode six. By showing the crazier episodes earlier, they demonstrate how large the scope of the show is, and how far it's willing to go, hooking an audience early on.

Well, to be fair, he thought he could fix it.

I disagree. I think compared to the network's old shows (Tom Goes to the Mayor, The Brak Show, Sealab, etc.) I'd say they take great care over their visuals. Even the stiffly-animated Metalocalypse uses some really good art in its show.
