I think it's most likely that the savings will be used to gain a price advantage over other "full service" competitors. People have become conditioned to flight sucking, and since the experience is about the same on every airline, it's turned into a price-shopping game.

Anyone who understands basic economics understands why someone else's wealth has little bearing on whether you can make your mortgage payment. The pie of wealth isn't a fixed size.
Rich people don't just sit on their money. They spend and invest it. What evidence do you have that the "rich" just sit on an overwhelming portion of their money?
