@midnightz: That's basically what they're doing right now. The siphon that is collecting some of the oil is similar to what you described.

They say that a handgun is only 140dB, but that's way off. I couldn't find measurements for a .22LR, but a 9mm, for example, is about 159.8dB, and a .45ACP is about 157dB

I can't believe how many people are arguing against this on the basis that the woman might come to greater harm if she defends herself with this device.
