While I was at Marks and Spencer, they were using a sample of The Avengers (Steed and Peel) theme tune in their adverts. Someone up the food chain decided it'd be a great idea to play that incredibly catchy 15 seconds or so of music on a continuous loop in store.

I thought from the headline they were going to be playing his *actual* parents, Timothy Carlton and Wanda Ventham.

It says they're doing it in Cheltenham as well, although I didn't think McDonalds on the Lower High Street was open late enough for rowdy drunks to be a problem there.

Oh hey, I live in Gloucestershire. Kind of weird to be finding trivial local news like this on an American pop culture and media website.

"The violence in this scene really is gruesome, almost gratuitously so.
If it has a purpose beyond shock value and trying really hard to look
cool"
It's an Adi Shankar project, so I think any purpose for it's totes mature and uber kewl OTT violence is coincidental. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with how violent

This is cool, but who is going to get to play Comet?!

The thing about Wright's fingerprints - when the film came out, pretty much every moment in it attributed to Wright's "genius" turned out to have been an addition from after Reed took over.

"The Democrats - this should be a no-brainer and yet…"

The Black and White Minstrel Show - in which white performers did blackface musical numbers on mainstream British TV - lasted well into the 1970s.

Plus, super-hero movies don't nearly have the saturation Westerns did. Taking 1952 as a random example, there were over 50 Western movies released that year. That's one a week at least (plus a huge swathe of TV series also). Half a dozen super-hero movies a year is in no way comparable and everyone predicting they'll

There's actually a moment that's a pretty perfect response to that (awful, awful) moment from Raimi's.
When it looks like Spider-Man's saved a load of people, one of them goes "Yeah! Spider-Man!". Then it goes to shit, Iron Man appears and properly saves them. Same guy goes "Yeah! Iron Man!"

Oh, AV Club, you squares. All the cool kids were doing murderous shadow babies in high school.

Is it when the Doctor's walking back at the end? There are few points in 10th Planet where the Doctor's wandering around outside, between the base and the Cyberman's spaceship, IIRC (which I might not - I've not seen it for a year or two). I'm curious as to whether they're going to recast Ben and Polly as well and if

I liked the way they handled Bill's appearance in this episode - showing her normal (ish) for the most part - but I would love to see a version where she's full on Cyberman the entire time. I love the Mondasian Cyber-voice and half her lines would have been awesome in it.

Agreed. Moffat's reasoning was supposedly that he couldn't see McGann's Doctor doing the kind of things attributed to the Doctor during the Time War, given he's generally so nice, which kind of misses the point, I think. By coming up with some hitherto secret iteration to do all the nasty Time War stuff, it undermines

I feel so sorry for Susanna Reid. She worked her way up for years through regional news on the BBC, made it to BBC Breakfast and was great for about a decade. Then she got the call from ITV that most broadcasters dream of "come sell out on ITV. It's pretty much the same job, just more tabloidy but we'll give you lots

The Bourne series was a string of diminishing returns for me. The first one is absolutely fantastic, while the second and third (I stopped after that, wisely I gather) just over-complicate and mine out his backstory for little real reward.
But the camera work is the worst thing. I detest shaky cam generally, and even

Wait til Act 5, is all I'll say.

I really don't get this relaxed vaccination schedule thing. Even if you think it's medically sound, which it pretty clearly isn't, you're just prolonging your kid's agony. Most kids don't like getting injections, some even into their teens. Rather than getting it all done in a few goes, you want them getting
