Some friends of mine play in an occasional Mr Bungle tribute band called Bungle Jr, mostly because Mr Bungle songs are really fun to play, but also it transpires that anyone in a bar will get into those songs played live.

Mister Bungle is pretty legit in places, and at least a seventeenth of Mike Patton's avant-garde output is worth a listen.

I think a lot of stuff that seemed endearing (mileage may super vary on the extent of that) back in the day seems kind of calcified and off-putting now.

Tim Heidecker and the band Magic! present: the Bladerunner soundtrack

Oh yeah I'm definitely happy with the actual pick

Tim Hecker could have been neat. And Dan Lopotin could have brought Hudson Mohawke along, given how well they worked on the ANOHNI record

I'll never get this argument. The idea that all music exists on the exact same curve and that it's possible to rate a Slayer album against an Aphex Twin album against a Ray Charles album in any kind of meaningful way

Also I feel like TLOP went from over- to under-rated in the space of like a fortnight. The Waves to Wolves section in particular is pretty unassailable for me.

I think a product of album drop as performance art thing is quite clever in that it generates a huge amount of interest, and music sites are so hard-up for revenue that there's a pressure to get an album review up as soon as possible to start hoovering up all that click traffic.

It's weird how unsettling I find the idea of posting anonymously, and not learning to recognise other posters. I've always wanted to look a little deeper into it, but it is a super stressful place to even just read through. Also the politics board completely ruined a friend of mine.

When I saw him in 2007 he charged £31.21 per ticket for his seven nights in London, which is way below what performers on his level tend to charge for enormodome shows, but did fit with the title of his 3121 album, which was just coming out.

Oh cool, I'm glad she's going to have her address in a pastebin archive and naked pictures of her freely available for the rest of forever in that case

I think it's interesting that 4chan, one of the purest manifestations of western (mostly) male id, is so based around collective anonymity to the point that identities are seen as undesirable. But it seems like it is poison for empathy

You mean the girl who sent a whole bunch of racist tweets to her in the midst of that whole storm?

I found Endless on some dodgy streaming site (I'm
scared to get an Apple trial sub because I did that with Tidal for Lemonade and I'm still using it) and I enjoyed it a lot, and it's funny how the hype cycle around nominally-surprise release album drops that it's tempting to treat Endless like the entreè and jump

Jessy Lanza's album is great too, ditto A$AP Ferg, Julianna Barwick… ludicrous year for music

Pyramids is great too. This version is from some late-night show and also features some very involved John Mayer guitar solo face

I had to go review this metal festival in 2009, and used it as an opportunity to fulfill the thwarted dreams of teenage me, who won tickets to a metal festival but wasn't told by his parents til after it happened.

It gets easier. Faster, at least

I saw one of the really early ones recently and it was pretty striking in hindsight how much social realist verklempt was packed into the first few seasons.
