Any time I hear a cuban-american talk about how US policy should be to eliminate Castro, I ask two questions: 1) What was your family’s status under Batista? 2) What would you replace Castro with, citing positive examples from other Latin American countries?

We didn’t like the bad guy that replaced the bad guy. They are also geographically close so it impacted us more directly. That nails it.

My problem with the Castro coverage has been this sense of glee like
“We finally killed him!” He was 90 and his brother has been running the place for years. It’s not like we were

I think five things are often missing from the one-side condemnations of Castro by Cuban-Americans -

The Cuban ex-pat community is one of the most reactionary political demographics in the United States. They’re one of the only identifiable groups of voters of color who went for Donald Trump in the election. So I don’t expect more from Le Batard. But you might note that the “murderous killer” you’re indicting via

Sorry but there comes a point where people are just making shit up to feel like special little flowers. What the fuck are even 37 different genders? There is no such thing as most of those.

the fact that you don’t see the parallel between this post and the often cited pussification of America, then I can’t help you.

Stupid people are why the Democrats lost. “This reaction” was created by stupid people and stupid people were turned off by it.

“This joke isn’t why the left lost, but the reaction to it is absolutely why.”

But it is actually wrong. Look, I love Rorty, and Contingency, Irony, and Solidarity is my Bible. But. I don’t think he was correct about what we are calling “identity politics” and the reason I don’t think he was correct about it is because literally everything is “identity politics.” Like, do people not think that

Literally your entire response to my comment ignores what I said and instead responds to something I didn’t say.

I found it odd that unions and trade organizations jumped on board with Hillary from the very start of the primaries. If there was any person that was pro-union and “blue collar” it was Bernie. And with that, the DNC figured they had the blue collar vote wrapped up.

They weren’t right to get this upset. If you think the joke was offensive, fine. But to get out your digital pitchforks and torches over, at worst, an ill-conceived joke is ridiculous.

Geez. We make fun of Trump for his thin skin but maybe we should, like, never do that again if a single joke at Democrats’ expense is going to generate 20 think pieces. Has the petition to have Jost fired and his fields sowed with salt been posted?

Jost was not ribbing his viewers with the idea that Hillary Clinton lost because Democrats focus too much on the intricacies of identity—which would have been fine, we can laugh at ourselves

Everyone needs to watch this, because it’s exactly what’s happening with the left eating itself over the last couple of weeks.

It’s a fucking joke!! This reaction to a fucking joke is why Dems lost the election.

As a liberal that is also a part of the LGBT community the whole 37 different genders is a bit ridiculous. It’s not why we lost the election and the joke was lame but it’s still an absurd concept.

What’s with these idiots citing Mark Lilla? Dude was a disciple of Irving Kristol and prominently featured in right-wing rags like Commentary. Mark Lilla is not a friend of the left, and you don’t need to take him seriously.

You wrote, “which would have been fine, we can laugh at ourselves.” OK, then I don’t understand, if this is the case, why was everyone flipping out over the joke BEFORE he commented on it on twitter?

I don’t get the outrage on this one. It’s a joke.
