It reminds me much of how the music labels said that, since the vast majority of music fans bought entire CDs of songs, wanting to buy individual tracks online was "elitist".

They're gorgeous, but it'd really be nice if more artists made higher resolution ones more suitable for desktop pictures. It's fine that they don't (their call), but it's be nice.

@FritzLaurel: Wait. I realize Sol is particular to our neck of the woods, but I thought that Solar System is generic. Well, to any bouncey, hurtling collection of rocks/gas sumps aggregated around one of those burning, shiny, weighty things squatting in the middle of the frenetic mess.

@mrsynthetico: Nielsen's audience is more interested in the segmentation than the totals. Rather than shave one of them by one (which proportionally would be a larger edit), they allow the total to be off by 1%.

@Himynameispromotedthiscommenta...: No, Gates did not.

It's especially galling that Microsoft is leveraging their OS near-monopoly, with its embedded web browser, to harm a competitor that innovates more, and performs better, than Microsoft.

Par for the course for Microsoft – what they create themselves (a very small list) is overwhelmed by the vast oceans of creative ideas they photocopy from real innovators.

When I was in high school, girls seemed spooky, mysterious and unknowable. Has anyone considered that they're the supernatural creatures Mom warned us about?

@skittles: No, they have not. They've violated a rule of that state's society, not declared war on the society itself. Infractions, too, are handled by the police. Are you suggesting that jaywalkers are enemies of the state?

@bredfan: I'll bet you think Hometown Buffet is every bit as good as the best local restaurant in your town.

One of the tragic, forgotten facts of the Challenger explosion was that Reagan's White House politicos pressured NASA to make sure that the launch proceeded on schedule so that Ronnie could make reference to it in his State of the Union address.

It must be a horrible thing to be outraged at getting the opportunity to actively choose what shows you really want to watch instead of passively sit on the couch, eyes glazed, as you're shovel-fed whatever crap Comcast throws in between their Snuggie & ShamWow ads.

@99TelepodProblems: You have to remember that in the '60s, there wasn't a national cable news network that would give voice to the lunatic Right-wing Xtian fringe. Lacking this platform, they were isolated to wallow in their pockets of ignorance, rather than see one of their own almost become Vice-President of the

@regis: A really excellent, informative post marred by an unfortunate second of confusion over whether or not one can intentionally corrupt a target. As anyone who remembers their junior prom can attest, one can very mindfully try to corrupt whatever tempting target catches your fancy. :D

I'm holding out for the Vibram pants for gents, myself.

My heart is crushed that Focus didn't include an infographic breakdown of Kitteh vs Puppy pictures posted, along with a logarithmic line graph measuring comparative Cuteness.

@Cogito Ergo Zoom: Quite... dickish? According to your logic, since Puzo wrote The Godfather, Coppola's two films are a waste of time.

Until Skype Mac Video throws in free Peen into the mix, I'll continue using Chatroulette for all my business teleconferencing needs, thank you very much.
