I totally thought he was going to be like in a front rowish area somewhere in front of Trump and the failure to spot him was not such a big deal, but he was literally across the table from him. The only explanations I can think of are that Trump is nearly blind or he actually didn’t know what Giuliani looks like.

They’re suing a fucking idiot who can’t find Rudy sitting right in front of him.

Now playing

It’s a real shame what the majority of mainstream country has devolved into these days. Old school, classic country is one of my favorite things to listen to.

Possibly because what passes for a clever lyrical concept in a modern country song works better as a bumper sticker.

Me.

I don’t know what vexes me more...the gender politics of these songs, or the way their singers assume this phony working class guise singing about pickup trucks and Georgia mud when you know they all split time between their gated McMansions in Nashville, and their penthouses in LA. They’re the music industry’s

This is the only thing I want to talk about today. The Truck Fucking urge is starting to percolate into all facets of society. Have you ever had sex in a truck? Let me tell you, it’s one of the least sexy vehicle options. We all know it only ranks slightly higher than a mini-van.

How exciting! Freddie Highmore has been doing amazing stuff as Norman. And now that Norma only exists in Norman’s demented head, Farmiga gets to be as fabulously campy as fuck.

couldn’t agree more.

Personally, I really like his voice, but it’s definitely not trained or anything resembling a musical theatre voice. (Honestly what annoyed me more was the mediocre dancing.) Have you listened to his band?? He had one album from like 2007 or something. I think they’re actually kind of awesome.

I’m with you. I’d add another thing that rubbed me the wrong way: his passion is for jazz, hers for old movies, but he ends up mansplaining old movies to her as well. He’s the expert on everything.

I have so many alternate castings floating around in my head that would have made it hell of a lot more believable. Like John Cho, Oscar Isaac (lord, I would’ve loved him in it), America Ferrara, Nicole Beharie, Lupita N’yongo and so on.

I’ve been talking about this with some friends—is there any reason a black person couldn’t have played the Gosling role? Pick a young-ish black actor with some star power (my choice was Michael B. Jordan), and it immediately feels like a more authentic movie. Hell, race-switch the Gosling/Legend roles and it’s better.

These are all very solid critiques.

I’m from California and I was appalled. An LA without Mexicans is no LA at all. Ryan Gosling can wear the hell out of a rolled sleeve, but he CANNOT sing. A white jazz musician, really? The only things I liked were the solid color dresses and the alternate timeline at the end. They should have made the whole movie

My manicurist saw it and did not like it. I have heard more negative reviews from people I know than positive.

A big ass souffle. Everything about La La Land is pretentious, so why not.
