my Elise has 75000 miles on it and has never had a single issue (other than an LED turning light on the side going out). Only routine maintenance. I can do grocery shopping in it just fine - the boot is pretty big and if you are alone you can fill up the passenger side. It is the most reliable car I have owned

Doug, you hit the nail on the head when you described Lotus owners. They know their cars very well while your average (but not all) p-car owner has no idea how to work on their car, all they know is their boss had one or maybe the guy at the club had one.

I'm sure if people adhered by this, we'd see a noticeable decrease in congestion
