So what happens to the autonomous juggernaut when there’s a major accident on the highway and the cops are directing you off it onto a dirt road detour? How is AI going to respond to hand-signals from some cop standing in the road, and then proceed to navigate a narrow dirt road (with no road markings) for 10 miles?

I’m well aware that drunk driving laws are a blanket safety feature playing to the lowest common denominator. And probably better to exist than not exist. (the “freedom” of driving under the influence isn’t an important “freedom”)

I learned to drive around that time. I heard similar arguments all the time in papers and the like. The root problem is something we don’t think about now. We have changed how we define drinking.

Drunk driving is bad, sure, and it’s also been demonized to the point of parody.

1) self-driving is pretty good at most things, except edge cases, and 2) almost everything is edge cases.
