I would honestly suggest giving the other games a go, especially enhanced by the many mods out there, but I actually played New Vegas before 3 and had no issues.

Play it, especially if you go the PC route. You may need to do stuff to get it to run well (I feel like I had to do something, it’s been a while), but I find the experience is best played on the PC, especially with all the neat mods out there. Same goes with New Vegas (which I also liked).
