While it’s true that religion does not always promote the good (e.g. radical islam), look at what has happened in places where religion is banned (Soviet Russia). The toll on human life taken by religious zealots is dwarfed by that taken by secular, i.e. religion-free, regimes.

Perhaps but I think the way it was meant is that the 7-11 has no reasonable cause to prohibit the sale (such as the person being drunk). Analogously, a gun shop can be held accountable for selling a gun to a person who fails a background check.
