I think we need to limit high school football players’ access to brooms. These things always involve broom handles.

The point is that will a salary cap, if you pay Elliot more, you are going to have to pay someone else less (who is probably working just as hard). If you want to be an effective team, there’s no room for sentimentality there.

In a salary capped league, it doesn’t matter that Jones could pay it many times over, because player salaries become a zero-sum game. If he gives Elliot more than he’s worth, he can’t give that money to someone else. So the team as a whole gets worse, or he has to underpay someone else.
