I believe this is a big $$ thing. The rust belt has immense salt mines that burrow under the south end of the Great Lakes.  Someone makes huge amounts of money on selling salt to the various state and municipal services.

People may have gone a little stir crazy, but try getting help for mental illness these days. It’s just not available the way it should be. Even with excellent insurance coverage it’s hard to find anyone who is taking patients.

My buddy drove cement trucks for that project. It’s difficult to  fathom the amount of concrete used in them tunnels.
