Her character was a sick male fantasy- she was intellectually disabled and mentally ill and then horribly exploited by everyone. But in the end her ‘sacrifice’ made her an ‘angel’ and ‘cured’ her husband.

It’s not obvious...like at all. ... I watched the whole thing not knowing... I was putting it together after it ended, but I just decided to google it. ... You needn’t worry about it being “heavy handed” and obvious....it’s intense for sure though.
