Just a friendly reminder to Deadspin staffers....if you keep focusing most of your non-event related MMA coverage on Sage, you don’t get to complain when the UFC ends up choosing to promote him even though he kinda sucks at this stage in his career.

Calling my shot now: Jonah Keri is going to be on Simmons pod within the next week or so, and he did this to generate a mild amount of buzz (a la the Collinsworth deal).
Actually...Jonah Keri brought some reputability to the site. It wasn’t like Barnwell or Lowe, where the spotlight really pushed them towards a bigger stature within the sportswriting community. Jonah Keri already had people who followed him to the site, sort of like the Men in Blazers or the Basketball Jones.
In other news, he released a podcast today where he vehemently protested against Chris Ryan’s assertion that Blue Chips doesn’t belong in the Sports Movie Hall of Fame. Wasn’t joking then either.
What in the world would make you assume that podcasts are significantly less work than writing a piece and submitting it to an editor? You have an idea how much production work and time suck can go into them?
$$$. The guys have said as much on Deadcast.
Dan Gilbert was a big Trump supporter, so no.
Not enough respect? His career was built on stealing a song from the great Calvin Klein.
Eh...sometimes you win a game you don’t deserve to win because your opponent brain farts and thinks his team is down one instead of up one and fouls. Sometimes a ref blows a call and your coach loses his shit and seals the game for the opponent.
It was largely a momentum swing BECAUSE Collins lost his shit though. Bad call, but the Collins fucked his players by reacting like that.
I don’t really see the issue with this particular aspect of the story. Jackson should absolutely pay financial restitution in this circumstance. His lawyers trying to get her to drop the charges is pretty typical.
If they offered to pay off the cops, that’s a bribe. This is just an attempt at an out of court settlement and literally happens all the time when people damage one another’s property.
Can’t he pretty much sue their asses into oblivion if they fire him for aloholism?
This isn’t accurate. The ideal is actually to restructure his deal in a trade. That would provide the least amount of a cap hit spread across the most time possible. That’s why they’ve been pursuing that angle and not just waiting to cut him.
I could see them getting a conditional first in 2018 for Romo, the condition being that he has to play roughly a full season.
This is Deadspin. They copy and paste other people’s reporting to make it seem as if they did reporting. Then they moralize in the most salacious way possible. Fuck reporting. That would require work and a budget to get a story right. Easier to rely on other people’s work and just benefit off the clicks.
They would still find ways around it. The bottom line is bigger guys have a choice to fight guys who are their size or try and move down and fight smaller dudes. If they take the risk of cutting weight, that’s their choice.
They have already changed the rules for weight cuts. Everyone wants to blame the rules, but Khabib is the guy walking around at 194 wanting to fight at 155. It’s not like he has to make the 40 lb weight cut to compete. He could fight at Welterweight or Middleweight if he really wanted to.
Just now noticed that Jay Gruden looks like Rich Sommer wearing facial prosthetics.
I think people might be confusing Vick and Jackson because of the way the story was written to conflate the two.
