To be fair to Tesla, isn’t this a choice made by all automakers? While you have to adopt the minimum standards, everyone makes their own choices on safety, usually to save money.

There are a lot of people richer than Musk and yet they didn’t start the modern electric car era. Nor the private space vehicle era. It seems to me that you can substitute ‘Amazon’ for ‘Tesla’, or any number of other new tech companies. Or old real estate companies for that matter - seems to be a kerfuffle over subcontractors stiffed, over visa programs being abused, etc. Someone should investigate.
