I agree with the overall view, but imo, when the GOP gained control of Congress and then said their only goal was “making Obama a one term president”, and then they actually did nothing but try and tear down the government, slow the economic recovery, and spent thousands of hours and millions of dollars attacking…
It’s one thing to want to retake the White House asap. It’s another to say doing that—as the Senate majority leader—is your top priority. That’s absurd.

To be fair, 2017 is a little late. This was clear eight years ago when McConnell stated that his number one goal was to make Obama a 1-term president.
